7 Ways To Live Out The Gospel In A Post-Truth, Post-Fact Culture

The rise of self as the ultimate arbiter of truth is antithetical not only to the Gospel but to the very basis of civilization.

Civilized people think beyond themselves. They care and they give. They put themselves second, or third.

It sounds hyperbolic to say civilization is being threatened. But maybe it’s not hyperbole.

Why love your neighbour when you can attack him? Maybe the attack never happened anyway.

WHAT FILLS YOUR CHURCH?

BEING THE BEST CHURCH FOR THE COMMUNITY

BY STEVE DUNN

The church I am a part of is in the midst of a sermon series on The Book of Acts called “The Church in Action.”  We have been looking at the process by which God brought the church into existence and set about carrying out its mission.  Historically speak of Pentecost as the “birthday” of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2 describes the event of birthing:

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” – Acts 2.1-4

God is moving…..

With the seemingly never-ending divisiveness of our current political situation I often find myself with a deep sense of despair in the direction our country is heading. Even with my deep belief that God is in control, and things will work out according to his plan, it can be difficult. For me  I find some solace in reading, studying, and sharing God’s Word. Yet often I yearn for more.

That is why when I read about God moving across the world and in my country, I find true inner peace for my daily life. Follow the link and see how God is using young people in West Virginia to spread his message of Love and Hope.

John 16:33 Common English Bible

33 I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged! I have conquered the world.”

How do I know the Bible is True??

This is a question everyone faces. Just because “Christians” believe what is in it why should you?

Open to the first words of the Bible, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The words hit you, and you have to make a choice. Do you believe those words?  You may have been told to just have faith and believe everything the Bible says, will that work for you?

When I began hearing the stories in the Bible, and then started reading them for myself I was constantly trying to figure out how could these things have actually happened. Maybe the stories are there to give an example of something we need to learn. Yet I still had an unease, if some of the stories may not be true, how do I know what is and what isn’t true?

So what I did was tell God what he already knew, I had questions. I asked for his help to understand. No, there was no enlightened moment I gained all understanding. What I did was continue to read the Bible little by little. The more I read the more I began to gain some understanding. All these stories, of all these ancient people are all tied together. Somewhere along the way I realized these stories, this book, it’s all true. Once I got to that vantage point it created a hunger for learning more. But that’s my story, what is yours? Where are you spiritually?

What if the God who created the heavens and earth wants to talk to you? Isn’t that worth finding out if that is true?

Just talk to God, tell him your doubts, and start reading…..

Love?

For Valentines Day, Here is a look at a great definition of “Love” I like this translation from “The Message”
Corinthians 13:3-7

“If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.”

May seem an impossible task, but if you ever want direction on how to improve your relationship with your significant other, start at “Love Never Gives Up”  and work down.
I hope your Valentines Day is Special….

Check out this verse on Bible Gateway

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone. – 2 Timothy 3:1-9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy3:1-9&version=NIV
